HI Everyone, today’s post is very personal so I am going to ask for a lot of love and grace from you all. I am blessed all over the place and I am totally thankful. But we all have demons in our lives that we must face. I have learned this it doesn’t matter if you are a work at home mom or Donald Trump. You wake up everyday slaying at least one dragon. This is why I don’t try to be someone like Donald Trump because I know this much we are more alike than we are different. We are human, he has dreams and goals. I have dreams and goals. I have things I want to work on and I’m pretty sure he does too. We will never be perfect until the good Lord calls us home.
There IS one major difference between Donald Trump and me. Donald’s out there doing it. In fact he’s done it!! You don’t get to be a billionaire by sitting on the couch One of the biggest demons I fight is procrastination. Now why would someone who is a leader and loves to coach others tell everyone about their weaknesses. Well because we are all human. There is not one of us that is SUPER HUMAN. Also if you don’t exorcize your demons they tend to stick around! I want mine to leave!!!
So how do you stop something you have been doing for years? You create a plan and break a habit. I have heard it takes 21 days to break a bad habit. That’s only three weeks! I have been procrastinating way longer than three weeks! I can do this. YOU CAN TOO!
So have you set a goal for the new year and yet your still where you were a month ago??? Me too. BUT NOT ANYMORE!!!!
What’s changed? well yesterday was my birthday! I had a good one. But I spent a lot of time reflecting. I had made goals some even before the new year and here it was my birthday and some of those goals were supposed to be met by yesterday and really they weren’t . I was still saying I’ll get this done! I’ll get that done!! Well this is my life and I cant just cant fence sit forever, or one day I will be sitting there wondering where did all the time go.
So I want to talk about some reasons why we procrastinate and then some ways to solve this problem.
1. REALIZE WHAT YOU PROCRASTINATE ABOUT – Most people procrastinate or put off the crud they don’t want to do or that makes them uncomfortable. My 5 year old is learning how to write his name for preschool his teacher gave him three pages and a month to trace his name over and over again until he feels comfortable with writing his name. He hated this task we would sit down at the table every night and it was like pulling teeth to get him to trace his name. Two weeks into this assignment he really dreaded sitting down to write his name. I am a teacher by trade so I tried all of my bag of tricks to pep him up and inspire him but by the end we were all tired of him writing his name and just glad we could turn in the paper.
Personally I procrastinate about getting healthy! Here comes the personal I need grace part. I LOVE LOVE LOVE fast food. I also love Pepsi or soda as much as I love fast food. I am addicted to both. You say well Christy that’s a little strong. Yes and no. It has taken me a long time to realize that I am addicted to it because I crave it. I wake up in the morning thinking what do I want for lunch, where am I going today. I have also realized I’m paying a price for it. I don’t feel good. I’m tired, out of shape and I generally dont feel good. So getting healthy should have been on my agenda months ago. YEP it was! Then I procrastinated!!! I put off losing weight which I could have honestly already have lost. I put off cutting out soda because I love the energy(which is really false energy by the way ). I need energy!! I am an older mom chasing three kids 5 and under around all day! This leads me to my second point.
2.DOES PROCRASTINATION SERVE A PURPOSE FOR YOU! For me it did. I would honestly tell myself you can start tomorrow it’s OK. My tomorrow never came until yesterday. Yesterday I woke up and went OK Christy how many more days are you willing to feel this way? I WAS DONE! NO MORE !!
3. ARE YOU INTO SELF SABOTAGE? I am the biggest culprit of this. Ladies and gentlemen this has so much to do with your self worth!!! STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP! YOU DESERVE TO SUCCEED! YOU DESERVE TO THRIVE. I have been beaten down by life over and over again. Yes I am blessed but I have also experienced a lot of pain. Sometimes when we feel pain over and over again we get into the mindset that pain is all there could be. Or I am really not good enough to be ______________ and you fill in the blank here. BUT THAT’S A LIE. God created me to have more than my I CANT attitude or IT”S TOO HARD attitude. HE CREATED YOU FOR THE VERY SAME THING!!! HE wants success for you and you and I should want that too.
So how do we move past procrastination and self sabotage? we make a plan, make goals and work at them.
In my next post I am going to tell you how you can get organized. create a plan, make goals and work EM!!!
Here’s to your AMAZING Success in 2012!!!
